Rochester – Contemporary Garden
This was a particularly interesting project, working with the property developer a second house was to be built on an existing plot.
The brief was to develop the garden to the new house in the same contemporary style as its interior and to make use of the existing two levels and two apple trees, one at each level. The trees as well as bearing fruit had great character, particularly at the lower level. Building a raised bed around the tree and at the edge of the new patio enhanced the Mediterranean courtyard feel.
At the top of the garden is an old high level brick wall, again with great character, the plan here is to add a subtle piece of wall art and draw the eye through the garden to the wall.
We decided to divide the original garden into two ‘L’ shapes, as this gave character and provided a more even distribution between the two houses.
The garden around the original house had to be reworked and this was based on a patio within a curved earth retaining wall.
Off street parking was provided by a five metre high earth retaining wall set into the bank at the side of the house.
